A Reduction Mammoplasty Can Take Anywhere From Two To Five Hours

Depending on the desired post-operative size, the size of a the breasts of a woman, and the technique used, a breast reduction procedure may take anywhere from two to five hours. Reduction mammoplasty is performed in office-based ambulatory facilities or in a hospital setting. There are some insurance companies that require a minimum volume of tissue to be removed to cover the surgery. This should be pre-determined by your cosmetic surgeon and a letter of pre-determination sent to your insurance carrier along with photographs of your condition to demonstrate the necessity for reduction mammoplasty. There are various techniques available to alleviate the problem which will likely be discussed with you when you meet your plastic surgeon. The most often performed technique involves an inverted T-shaped incision similar to the most common incision used in breast lift surgery. There are several new techniques that are available, but most of these techniques don't apply to many patients.

Breast Reduction Procedures Are Usually Performed For Relief Of Medical Or Physical Pain

A reduction mammoplasty, in contrast to a mastopexy, is usually performed for relief of physical or medical problems that are a result of the weight of one's excessively large breasts. Back and neck pain, breathing problems, and skin rashes are some of the medical conditions that are frequently associated with large breasts. Many women who need this plastic surgery procedure feel an extreme sense of self consciousness secondary to the large size of their breasts. Reduction mammoplasty, usually referred to as breast reduction surgery, is designed to alleviate these issues. The procedure involves the removal of fat, skin, and breast tissue from the breasts thereby creating a lighter, smaller, and firmer structure. Also, if the size of the areola is excessive, this may be corrected during the procedure.

Cosmetic Surgeons Have Discovered A Scarless Breast Reduction

Recent advances in breast surgery techniques allow for breast reduction (or reduction mammoplasty) using tumescent liposuction alone (scarless). Los Angeles plastic surgeons perform scarless breast reduction only in selected candidates, and may be performed without any of the traditional reduction surgery scars. Patients can demonstrate a 30-50% reduction in size of their breasts.

Breast reduction using liposuction alone will be able to produce a smaller version of a woman's breasts that she had before liposuction. The breast's overall shape will be very similar to their shape before liposuction. Advantages of breast reduction by liposuction over traditional methods include significantly fewer visible scars, faster recovery, less discomfort, and fewer post-operative complications.

Canton, Michigan, Breast Reduction

When the matter of plastic surgery comes up, it often revolves around breast enlargement and tightening of the face and abdomen. These are certainly very popular procedures, and breast enlargement is consistently among the most popular elective procedures performed in the Breast Reduction Surgery in MichiganUnited States each year. Not every woman's breasts are smaller than she wants, however. For those women whose breasts are excessively large, their burden usually involves more than just self-esteem. Extremely large breasts can lead to back, neck, and shoulder pain, and even skin irritation, to say nothing of difficulty leading an active life or finding clothes that fit.

When performing breast reduction surgery, the surgeon removes excess breast tissue to achieve a breast size better proportioned to the rest of the woman's body, and may reposition the areola as well. There are a number of factors that affect whether you would be a good candidate for surgery. An open, candid consultation with a board certified doctor such as Michigan cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Bazzi, can help you determine if this surgery is right for you.

Large, Heavy, or Hanging Breasts Can Cause Embarrassment and Difficulties

Just as women can be quite self-conscious with underdeveloped breasts, large heavy or hanging breasts can cause embarrassment and difficulties all of their own. Plastic surgeons understand that over-development of the breast can cause a tremendous problem in self- esteem, the inability to exercise, difficulty with posture, backache and unwanted attention.
Many plastic surgeons have spent years perfecting their short scar approach to reduce the breast size, relieve the sagging and improve the breast contour and shape. The nipple is not removed or replaced. Plastic surgeons are able to preserve ducts and sensation to the nipple, though your ability to breast-feed is most likely reduced. Scars are inconspicuous and can be covered by most bathing suits and low cut clothing.
Fortunately, insurance plans may cover breast reduction surgery. However, denial by insurance or a request by insurance that a very harsh or excessive reduction be carried out, prompts many patients to go outside of ordinary insurance coverage to seek help. At many centers for aesthetic surgery, private and comprehensive services are available. The centers pride themselves in providing affordable breast reduction surgery for those who don't qualify under today's restrictive insurance plans.
